By that I mean it was my intention to publish 365 blog posts this year, and here we are several weeks into the year with only the first one.

To summarise the year so far: I completed a nonfiction proposal for the Edith book and am now querying it again; I intend to apply for a PhD and have begun a proposal, and I’m working on a novel.

I am also looking for a job but I don’t want to talk about that.

I’m trying to do lots of reading but currently (other than as research for the novel), all I want to read about is Tolkien. I finished the book of his letters today, and now I’m reading Humphrey Carpenter’s biography. Hopefully going to follow that up with a book by Tom Shippey, and then a book about The Inklings. Reading about writers just keeps me going. I still intend to do an in-depth post about Tolkien’s life through the prism of the 2019 biopic.

The song I currently have on loop is ‘You’ll Be Alright, Kid’ by Alex Warren, because I need the perpetual reassurance. And the other day an idea for a book came to me in a dream so that’s cool I suppose.

Maybe tomorrow I will tell you about the novel.
